Dr. Richard Tom
Dr. Richard Tom graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. He also served as a soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve with the rank of Specialist in Infantry and Fuel Supply. He then attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine) and received his dental degree in 2001. Afterward, Dr. Tom completed a year-long comprehensive residency in all phases of dentistry and basic hospital medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York City, a Level 1 Trauma Center that serves the metropolitan New York area. Being a career member of the Academy of General Dentistry, he has maintained and updated his skills with new developments and procedures in patient care.
Dr. Tom worked with other excellent dentists in the New York and New Jersey area before seeking out a practice of his own. He found a kindred spirit in the retiring Dr. George Heflich, who sought a successor who shared a similar practice philosophy, enthusiasm, and friendliness. These are the principles that embody the great practice Dr. Heflich started in 1991, in the beautiful community of Nutley. The goal of RT Dental remains the same: to provide the best dental treatment while giving our patients the attention that they deserve.
Dr. Tom is a long-time resident of Bergen County, New Jersey. He is married and the proud father of one daughter. He enjoys hiking, swimming, electronics, and traveling.
Arlene has lived in Nutley for over 30 years and has been an office manager for over 23 years. She enjoys working with Dr. Tom and the excellent team at RT Dental, and she shares their common goal of providing a loving and caring experience for all the patients.
She continually strives for excellence in all she does at RT Dental and works to build trust with patients. The most rewarding part of Arlene’s career is ensuring the best possible experience for Dr. Tom’s patients, from the time they enter until the time they leave.
When she's not at work, Arlene spends her time with family and friends. She loves to vacation at the beach, especially the Caribbean, as well as doing crafts, baking, and quilting for newborn babies.
Joanne is a third-generation Nutley resident and has over 28 years of experience in the dental field. She enjoys building personal and professional relationships with her patients while helping to fulfill their dental needs. Meeting new patients is extremely rewarding for her and she strives to make all of her patients at RT Dental feel comfortable so that they have a rewarding experience every time they visit.
When she's not taking care of patients, Joanne loves spending time with her husband, two children, and crazy dog. She is active with both of her children's respective Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops and loves watching them excel in their favorite sports and dance activities.
Gelena resides in Nutley, and she is a graduate of the NYU College of Dentistry. She has been a registered dental hygienist for over 15 years.
