Your smile says a lot about you! After all, it is one of the first features people notice when they meet you. Are you happy with the current condition of your smile? Or are there changes you would like to make? Even small chips or discoloration on your teeth can diminish the appearance of your smile and make you feel self-conscious.
The good news is that Dr. Richard Tom has solutions for you. At RT Dental we can use porcelain veneers to create a more harmonious look and the smile you’ve always dreamed of!
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Best described as ultra-thin layers of porcelain, porcelain reflects light in the same way your natural tooth does, and veneers are bonded directly over the surface of your tooth so they can change its shade, shape, and size, while also covering imperfections.
Some of the concerns veneers are ideal for handling are:
- Size or shape discrepancies
- Small misalignment concerns
- Fractures or chipping
- Excessive wear
- Stains or discoloration
- Spaces or gaps between teeth
While veneers can repair one or two teeth, it is most effective to use them to enhance multiple teeth and change the appearance of your smile.
What Is the Process When Getting Porcelain Veneers?
We can complete your new smile with veneers during two appointments with your dentist in Nutley. Dr. Tom will prepare your teeth for your veneers during your first appointment, and you will leave our office with temporary veneers that will help you get comfortable with the look and feel of your new smile.
You will wear the temporary veneers for one to two weeks while a trusted dental laboratory crafts your permanent restorations. When your permanent veneers are ready, you will return to RT Dental and Dr. Tom will place them. This is the time to have him make any necessary adjustments to your smile that you noticed while you were wearing your temporary veneers.
Maintaining Your Investment
When you choose to invest in porcelain veneers, you are going to love your new smile! Now you need to know the best way to maintain it. You’ll want to brush your veneers just like you did before, using a nonabrasive toothpaste and soft-bristle brush that won’t scratch or damage your restorations.
Regular dental checkups with Dr. Tom every six months will also help you maintain the health and appearance of your veneers. With excellent home care and regular checkups, your veneers can potentially last for 12 to 15 years.
