Invisalign

Teeth that are crooked can impact the appearance of your smile and cause you to feel embarrassed. Did you know that these teeth could also be affecting your oral health?

When teeth are crowded or overlap, they are much harder to brush and floss effectively. If you can’t properly clean your teeth, it increases your risk of developing other dental concerns such as gum disease or tooth decay. The benefits of straightening your teeth are more than just giving you the added confidence of having a beautiful smile; it also improves your oral health.

Why Choose Invisalign?

Perhaps you’ve considered aligning your teeth, but the idea of having to wear metal braces for months or even years is not appealing. Invisalign offers busy adults the benefits of discretion and efficiency. Discretion since aligners are clear and virtually invisible. Efficiency because treatment can typically be completed faster with fewer visits to your dentist to check in than are required with traditional orthodontics.

Because you can easily remove your aligners, you will still enjoy eating the foods you love. Brushing and flossing also stay the same so you can easily maintain your oral health throughout your Invisalign treatment.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Instead of traditional braces, Invisalign relies on clear plastic aligners that fit snugly and apply gentle pressure that moves teeth. Aligners are smooth and comfortable to wear, which means they won’t interfere with your normal daily activities. You never have to deal with the discomfort of brackets or wires poking into your gums or soft tissues.

You’ll wear each set of aligners for two weeks and for at least 22 hours each day to achieve the desired results. Your aligners can be changed at home, which means you won’t have to visit Dr. Richard Tom every two or three weeks, only periodically to ensure your treatment is progressing correctly.

At the end of treatment, you’ll wear a retainer, much like your aligners, at night while you sleep to maintain your straight and beautiful smile.

How Do I Know if Invisalign Is Right for Me?

Dr. Tom is your certified Invisalign provider in Nutley, NJ, and he can determine if it’s the best treatment to suit your needs during a thorough examination where he will also take photos and x-rays of your teeth. Aside from complex bite concerns, Invisalign can correct most alignment issues and works well for the majority of patients.

If you move forward with Invisalign, Dr. Tom will plan your treatment using 3D imaging. He can even use this technology to show you what your completed smile will look like before you even start treatment!
